Hard lump tucked in by jaw for years- worrying?

About 2 years ago I noticed a hard lump tucked away between my jaw and neck, just below my ear. Over the past 2 years it's gotten bigger, although I haven't noticed much difference for the past year or so.

I went to the doctor's who did an ultrasound, and they said it was a cyst. However, I'm not entirely sure they found the lump in question given how tucked in it is.

Should I be worried, given that it's been about 2 years and hasn't changed much in the past 6 months or so?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the concerns you have about this lump.

You might find it useful to ask your GP (at an appointment) to go over the results of the ultrasound scan you had, so that you can be sure that this lump was picked up and scanned. The results of the scan would say if there was anything worrying about it.

Because you are worried about the lump do speak with your GP who may want to examine you and do further tests, if they are needed.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi!

wondered if you did/heard anything more about your lump? In a similar situation in having a hard lump tucked under my jaw- had it for about 6 months now. Getting an ultrasound soon too.

  • Hi Rachel, and thanks for posting.

I've responded as I can see Barker Boo hasn't been on here for a while.

Sounds like you've been to the doctor and they've referred you for a scan on the lump, so now its just the waiting game.

It can be hard to not want to jump in find out answers sooner, but really anyone else's situation is going to be individual to them.

Hold tight and you will have more information soon.  Just try and keep distracted until then to help time pass.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
