Possible ovarian cancer

I have an abdominal mass of 15cm seen on ultrasound,  some symptoms of urinary difficulties and slight urgency at times, occasional low back pain but otherwise feel how I  normally do. My serum ca125 level is 134.6 ku/l which alarms me. How likely is this to be ovarian cancer? I sm 56 and a type 1 diabetic.

Radiographer said the edges of the mass were smooth which was a good sign, she said endometrioma was a possibility although  I have never suffered from endometriosis. I have been 6 years post menopause.

I have a CT next week and am obviously very worried. I  would welcome any thoughts on this. Thank you.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the worry it is causing you.

I'm afraid that no one yet can say what is causing this mass and your symptoms, but it is not necessarily anything to do with cancer.

The CT scan will give more information and you're likely to be seen by a gynaecologist who will give you the results and tell you what needs to be done next.

I know that having a high CA125 level can be worrying, but remember that it is not a perfect test and can be risen for other reasons other than cancer.

I hope you know more about your situation soon and that you have support.  Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
