armpit pain/lump

Hi,

Looking for anyone who may have previously/is experiencing anything similar to myself...

Towards the end of 2022 I noticed pain in my right armpit when applying roll on deodrant. Upon checking my armpit I noticed a lump that was painful to the touch. I googled it at the the time and thought my lymph nodes may be swelled as I had a cold at the time. Moving on a few months and I noitced that the area was still sensitive to the touch and that the lump was still there. I had at this point previously checked my left armpit but found nothing out of the ordinary. Upon checking a second time however I found another lump, slightly smaller in size to that in my right. The lump in my left armpit does not hurt but the right hand side one does still.

I recently moved to a different part of the country so had been putting off sorting my Dr's transfer. I managed to visit my Dr this morning who advised that my breasts seem fine and that the left hand side lump feels as though it may be a sebascious cyst although I have nore pain, redness etc. My Dr struggled to find the lump in the right armpit and made the decision to refer me for an ultrasound due to the pain I am experiencing. Before leaving we tried again to see if we could feel anything and we did find the lump on my right hand side. At this point my Dr asked my age and agreed that the best course of action would be to proceed with the ultrasound.

I'm starting to worry myself a little at this point and would love to hear from anyone who may have any advise?

  • Hi IS24 and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling worried about this.

Lymph nodes can often become swollen when we have a cold or other infection and sometimes can take several months to go back to normal.  Sometimes they never return to their original size.  It is always worrying when we find a change, it's good to hear that you have been examined by a doctor and they have referred you to have an ultrasound.  This is often just a precaution but will hopefully will help to put your mind at rest.

Most people do get lumps at some point which can be caused by many things.  They can be hard or soft and many different sizes, often they are nothing to worry about, but it is always good to get them checked if they have been there for a couple of weeks and aren't going away, or become red or painful.

I saw that you have also posted in another section, so hopefully other members will share their experiences with you, but do remember that everyone is an individual and although people may seem to have a very similar diagnosis the outcome can be quite different.

I hope you recieve your appointment for the ultrasound soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rachel
