Fit test result

I have had a fit test come back with 76.1 if/g hb, is this extremely high and indicating cancer?

  • Thank you for responding and yes I've had some wonderful and informative advice on here. My ultrasound following the raised CA125 has come back clear and so did my rectal exam which is good just the colonoscopy to go.

I'm on a high dose for metformin for my diabetes which has always played havoc with my stools, if I was getting diarrhoea from that long term could that inflame my colon? Xx

  • I didn't have symptoms it was just the two yearly NHS bowel screening program which I had done in the past with problem. I'm almost wishing I hadn't done test this time as it will ruin my holiday despite trying so hard to be positive. FOUR weeks of waiting for the colonoscopy which will seem endless (I appreciate others have waited a lot longer) but the fear doesn't go away.

  • No waiting is awful but honestly I think you will be fine, it's probably something else that has caused a spike. I'm going away as well, I'm kind of glad mine is after I dread getting the results while I was away.  Could you not contact the hospital and see if they can put you down for any cancellations that come up before you go away? Xx

  • Hi Loulou7878 and thanks for posting again.

Long term diarrhoea may cause your colon to be irritated and inflamed.  You may find it useful to talk to your GP about this if you haven't already.

They could prescribe you medications which slow down your bowel such as loperamide (you can also buy this over the counter).  They may also discuss a high fibre diet which could make the stools less watery, or recommend a fibre supplement.

While you have diarrhoea it is important you continue to drink enough to ensure you don't become dehydrated.  Try to drink plenty of liquid, up to two litres a day (unless advised not to do so from a healthcare professional) to replace lost fluid.

I hope this is helpful.  Please do get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You might like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel

  • I did ask that question but if a cancellation did come up (which the nurse thought unlikely) and I had polyps or something else removed or biopsies then they advise against flying for two weeks....so I wouldn't be able to go anyway. Sometimes ignorance is bliss but I appreciate fully that if something sinister is found then when caught early the outcome is much more positive.

  • Hi, did you get your apt yet? I had mine and they removed 3 polyps, they don't think they are sinister but have sent them off for biopsy. I'll relax when I get them back and hopefully nothing

  • Hi Loulou glad all went well (I'm sure you biopsy's will be fine, they usually have a good idea if something looks "not right"). I have my colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon so prep drink later today!!
