How did you get that number. I have no mention of a number in the letter from NHS after a "positive " FIT at home screen. I've seen others report of numbers in the 100s so perhaps you needn't worry unduly. I will ask what my score was at the consultation they've called me in for on Wednesday.....I've been worrying now for over a week since the letter came, it's awful.
it certainly doesn't indicate cancer there are many other reasons.
I seen it on the nhs app, I had a missed call from the doctors and when I rang back they booked me in a for call on Thursday. I have my GP records linked to nhs app so I can see results and it said 76.1 and to consider 2ww. I've phoned back to GP and they are ringing me at half 5 today.
I know it's so worrying isn't it, fingers crossed we are both ok. Do you know how long you have to wait?
Hi I just looked at the nhs app and the FIT is there with an "abnormal" result but I cannot see a score.!!
I'm hoping that when I go to the hospital on Wednesday for the consultation, I will be given a date for the colonoscopy which as we're due to go away I think will be after the 19th April as when I spoke to them a week ago they were already booking for the 17/18th April so even if I cancelled the holiday I would still have the wait and worry. It is horrendous.
Mine was down further below the abnormal bit. I'm panicking quite a bit had my CA125 last week and it is raised as well. Hoping that's nothing as well.
wouldn't it be great if we could these things done and results in a day. Would you prefer to wait until you come back?
I'm not a nurse, but I do know there is not a number in the FIT that indicates cancer. The FIT test only tests for blood in the stool. Even very high numbers - I've seen ones here like 1,000 or 900 or 400 - can have a number of different causes. Cancer is one thing that can cause blood in the stool but it is far from the most likely. The most likely are probably hemorrhoids, polyps or a fissure.
I think something like 90% of cases where the FIT test is over 10 are not cancer.
I wouldn't think 78 extremely high, but even if it were, that still wouldn't mean it was necessarily cancer. There are posts here from people who got really high results and turned out to have other issues.
It is awful, having to wait to have it ruled out though.
I doubt I'll have a choice but to wait as I'm pretty sure I won't get an appointment until after 20th April time. I'm trying to stay positive but that little voice always creeps back in, usually in the early hours when I can't sleep. Yes it would b3 great if everything could be done within a week
ill look again for a score but sure it isn't there, which seems odd!!
Did you get a callback from your GP yesterday? What did they suggest?
Hello and thank you for posting.
It looks like you have had some good advice and support from other forum users already. I think you may have heard from your GP yesterday, but it isn't unusual for anyone with a result over 10 to trigger a colonoscopy as the doctors work alongside an algorithm of what investigations to offer and when.
FIT tests pick up hidden bleeding from the bowel but do not pick up why this is happening. It can mean a number of things could be going on ranging from inflammatory bowel, polyps to Crohns and constipation. It is only by looking into this test result further will they know the cause.
I noticed in one of your other posts you are also worried about a raised CA125. This is also a test that does not diagnose cancer but can mean that there is some inflammation, or irritation within the pelvic area. This can be caused by many things like menopause, fibroids, ovarian cysts and endometriosis, and again only investigation can work out what is happening for you.
Take care, and I hope you get some answers soon. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Sarah.
Yeah I know I just panic, it's cause I have a 5 year old son, the thought of not being there for him growing up just destroys me. I had my ultrasound on my ovaries and uterus and it was fine and so was my rectal exam so that's two positives. I've had the diarrhoea for about 6 months but I did go up to the high dose of metformin for my diabetes and I think that affects me but on the iron tablets now so they are helping.
thank you for your response that has calmed me down a bit xx
Yes they did call me back and said anything over 10 warrants investigation but they called me in for a rectal exam which she found fine. I'm on iron tablets at the minute and they are bloating me no end but helping with the diarrhoea which is good.
im like you I have to wait to April as well as I'm going home for a break. My friend had one done and she said you get the results quite quick though so that will be good if that's the case, hopefully you don't have to wait too long after the 20th.
what symptoms did you have to get a Fitt test done? Xx
