Chest discomfort and arm discomfort

Hi, I just wanted some advice or reassurance. I have been suffering with chest discomfort for around a year now, I also get aching left arm and fingers. My chest feels heavy nearly every single day it's not pain just heaviness and discomfort. I have been to my gp so many times, aswel as a&e due to me thinking it's heart related. I've had so many different blood tests, ecgs etc and they always comE back completely clear. I had a full blood count down a couple of weeks ago which all came back clear along with the bloods for my heart. Does anyone else suffer with this or no what it could be or how to stop it. The doctors say acid reflux and anxiety but deep down I believe it's more but they don't seem to care it's taking over my whole lofe Now as all I think abiut are these sensations and my heart.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your different symptoms and I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you.

As I am sure that you are aware we can't diagnose you and it is difficult to compare symptoms with other members of the forum as everyone is so different. GP's follow guidelines which give the sorts of symptoms that should trigger an urgent referral in case they are due to cancer. But GP's can also refer to a hospital specialist for a non urgent referral, so youi could ask if this is possible although it might take a while to get an appointment.

I wonder whether it may be helpful to look at what you are eating to see whether there are any triggers that cause the 'heaviness and discomfort'. The NHS have produced some information on how to Live Well which you may find helpful to look at here

    https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/

I am not sure whether the GP has prescribed any medication for your acid reflux but it would be helpful if there was something that could help control some of the symptoms that you are experencing.

if your symptoms persist then do go back to your GP or a different GP in the practice for their opinion.

I do hope that you feel better soon.

    All the best,

    Catherine
