Chemo acne help needed

I started chemotherapy 10 days ago for HER2+ breast cancer.
I am 41 with a 7 year old and and 1 year old

I am on chemo drugs docetaxel and carboplatin as well has targeted drug therapy Herceptin (phesgo)

I have had most of the fun symptoms and have felt absolutely awful though have started to turn a corner again.

In the last few days I though after never really suffering with spots I have developed the worst acne!
It covers round my chin, mouth and nose and seems to be heading to my forehead also. It's so red, angry, bumpy and full of pustules. At the same time my skin is really dry and flaking.

Any top tips? I'm not sure what to do for the best.
Is this typical after the first round? will it go away? Am I going to look like this throughout treatment as it's awful
Good job I'm not going out currently as immune system is low huh!
TIA

  • Hello Nikki and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that your treatment is causing side effects and can appreciate how troublesome and mortifying a noticeable rash on your face can be.

I think you need to let the hospital know about this rash to get their input - they may want to take a look at it. Sometimes with an acne looking type of rash, they might consider prescription only medicines for example topical antibiotics and steroids. So I think it is best to get advice from wherever you are being treated. Very often with the right treatment skin reactions can be kept under control.

I hope you can easily get hold of someone at the hospital to help.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays from 9-5,

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
