  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain that you are experiencing.

Unfortunately in some people pain can continue for months after surgery. It can happen after all types of breast surgery including lumpectomy. The pain is usually caused by bruising, stretching or damage to nerves during surgery or when scar tissue forms. It may be a good idea to get the pain assessed by your GP or your breast care team. You can also talk to them about 'your bumpy ' breast and hopefully they will be able to reassure you that all is as it should be.  Exercises in some people have been shown to help as well as regular painkillers. Breast Cancer Now has some information about this and also tips to help manage the pain. Have a look here

Wearing a well fitting and supportive bra may also help.

I have come across some old posts on Cancerchat that describes the pains that you sound like you are experiencing. Have a look at the thread here

I do hope that you manage to speak to your GP or breast team soon to try and get their input.

You have posted on 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread or start your own then you may get more responses.

If you would like to chat any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a call. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
