LETZ done mid December - totally messed my life up

As the title says...I waited over 5 weeks to start having sex again and I thought I was fine. For the last month or more every time I have sex I discharge, cramp as if on period and bleed two days after sex which lasts for days.

I was overjoyed to have my coil fitted 2 years ago and I stopped having periods and now after LETZ I'm totally miserable. The discharge and healing first few weeks was foul and I felt disgusting. Started having sex again in Feb (nothing heavy as still want to be careful) and I feel like I'm constantly bleeding. This is affecting me mentally, physically and affects my sex life with my partner despite him being understanding and supportive. I just feel like a massive disgusting piece of defect. I sometimes wish I never had this done and I honestly would prefer not to be here than this. I've got ADHD and ASD and it makes it 10 times worse.

I struggle to get GP appointment, sexual health clinic says go to GP and gyno dep in hospital I had colposcopy and LETZ done also won't see me.

I don't know if anyone can help me or reassure me but I just needed to vent

  • Hi there

I am so sorry to hear about how LLETZ treatment has affected you and left you with some unwanted side effects.

We always encourage people to speak to the doctors and nurses involved in their care to get properly assessed and work out what can be done to help improve things.

Unfortunately it can sometimes take longer for things such as bleeding after sex and discomfort to ease in some instances, you can read about this here but in most cases this does improve after 3 months. So perhaps you will turn a corner soon.

It must be very frustrating for you if you have tried contacting these people with little support but I would advise you to try again and ask to speak to someone different this time.

You are welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 4040 week days 9-5 if you would like to talk over the phone and there are other charities such as Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust here that also offers support and a helpline.

I hope you are able to get the help and support you need and that you get back to your normal self soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thank you for your understanding I managed to get an appointment in two weeks' time with a GP but probably will end up with a referral if they need to cauterize it or something - that will mean another 3 months minimum of healing or I will end up with some sort of phobia. Not to mention another smear or colposcopy in the summer. I've never had problems of this kind until that damn procedure. I've had smear tests regularly since the age of 18 (in my home country that's standard), I'm 38 now. I actually feel mutilated. I know it sounds overly dramatic but that's how it feels.
