Large Mole On Breast

Hello,

Last Friday I had a large mole (2.5cm) removed off the side of my breast. It hasn't changed for at least 4 years, maybe even more. It's always looked a bit dodgy with irregular borders, looks a bit patchy and obviously its size. I gained and lost weight twice so I put the way it looked down to that and thought no more of it.

I got it checked casually a couple of weeks ago as I was having 2 more checked out on my arm. The ones on the arm were fine but my GP took a photo of the one on my breast through dermascooe and sent it to dermatologist who got back to me very quickly with an appointment the following week.
When I saw the dermatologist, I was his last patient of the day and pretty much just said "we don't like large flat moles so we are going to remove it via excision" and that was that, all very quick. I didn't get a chance to ask any questions.

Now I'm super worried because if it's melanoma, I've had it for a very long time. I haven't had any other symptoms. The mole wasn't crusty, didn't change colour really. I don't feel unwell. So I didn't get it checked sooner. Will I have had symptoms if it was melanoma? I'm honestly sick with worry right now.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the mole you have and I can appreciate that this must be a worry for you.

However, I am afraid that until it has been removed and looked at under a microscope (by a specialist doctor) will it be known what it is and if it is cancer. Not all moles, even those that look worrying, will turn out to be caused by cancer.

Be reassured that it is being looked at and I hope you know what it is soon.
