failed colonoscopy’s

Hi all,

My husband had hirshsprungs disease since birth & in adulthood has to end up having a stoma

Hia bowels still block up & after 3 failed colonoscopy's we are at our wits end as i think it's the years of the nerves dying of in his bowels that they never empty fully even afte a weeks prep

Does anyone on here have hirschsrungs and needed a colonoscopy

Thanks

  • Hello Caryn

I am sorry to hear about your husband having failed colonoscopies and can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you both.

As you will be aware Hirschsprung disease is incredibly rare so it is unlikely that any one else here will be in exactly the same situation as your husband. However I'm sure there are others who have experienced failed colonoscopies for a variety of reasons and hopefully they will pop on and comment to you on this thread.

Failed colonoscopies can occur because of failed bowel prep, a blockage or a difficulty in passing the camera through the bowel in which the procedure needs to be stopped.

I don't know what the team involved in your husbands care have said about the next steps but do discuss if there is any alternative test that can be used instead.

Wishing you both all the best

    Naomi
