Changing mole

Hi 

Found a new mole at i think it was the beging of 2022 maybe late 2021, it keeps changing in colour and size. Now i whet to get it checked in october but they didnt make me feel welcome and to basicly keep an eye on it, never felt like going back since, but should i go back. I will admit i do smoke quite a bit and i suffer with constant lower back pain if that means anything. My age is 34 .

    Most moles don't develop into skin cancer and people are advised to keep an eye on them to look out for any changes. There could be a few exceptions and a few people with a lot of moles may be monitored on a regular basis by a skin specialist (dermatologist).  

    There are certain things to look out for in moles that we need to report to the doctor, they don't necessarily mean skin cancer however they do need to be properly assessed in case this is what is causing them. GP's are very experienced at looking at skin conditions and are able to decide if someone needs further tests.

    We would always advise going back to the doctor to have your mole checked out just to be on the safe side if you are still worried.

    Hi,

    I note that you've been worried about this mole for a while and have posted about it a few times. Nurse Celene has given you good advice and I just wanted to add a couple of suggestions from the viewpoint of a melanoma patient.

    If you are wary of going back to your GP, consider downloading the Skin Vision app which will analyse your mole and either put your mind at rest or suggest you see your GP. You can then show your GP the result in the app. Otherwise, keep a photographic diary over the next week or two, showing the changes. This will then help your GP to decide if you need a dermatology referral.

    Malignant moles don't tend to change in size and colour on a regular basis so hopefully your mole is fine but don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
