Mum

First time on here, feeling a bit numb, my dad has just broke the news after my mum had a MRI scan, and has to have a camera next sat, after nearly a week of waiting for results, she got a letter to say it's cancer , I feel so numb, not knowing what's going to happen, I just can't believe she has to wait another week to have a camera, she was 10st six months ago, she's now 7st and a half

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your mum's recent news and appreciate this must be a worrying and uncertain time for all the family.

At a time like this the doctors involved in your mum's care will be wanting to run a series of different tests to build up a picture of exactly what is going on and guide the best treatment plan for her.

It is understandable to want things done as quickly as possible and it sounds like the hospital are trying to do this so hopefully you will all know more very soon.

Hearing a loved one has cancer is never an easy thing to take in and a series of emotions often do occur. It is important to be kind to yourself and try and take things one day at a time.

We have information about supporting someone with cancer whilst looking after yourself here that may be useful to read.  I also hope you have a good support system around you and the rest of the family to help you through this time.

Do get back in touch any time and you are also welcome to call the helpline if you prefer. We're here weekdays 9-5 on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
