Firm lump back of neck/bottom of head

Hello

i have recently went to the GP after suffering really bad pain in my my neck and left shoulder. A trapped nerve was diagnosed.
while I was there I mentioned a lump I had felt on the top of my neck, bottom of my skull towards the right but just off centre.
it's about the size of a large marble probably the size  a 10p and very hard. It doesn't move. It's not sore but kind of started aching recently.
it's more predominant when I bend my neck forward or tilt my head to the left.
it's been there since August 2022.

anyways the Gp said he would refer me for an MRI just to check out my neck.

I have the appointment on Friday 3rd of March but I'm not going to lie I am now passed myself.

any words or reassurance, any similar symptoms that people can share outcomes.

thanks Jx

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry but until you have had the MRI can anyone say if there is anything the matter. I know this must be worrying but be reassured it is being looked into.

While asking other people about their situation might help reassure you it could also cause you some worry. Remember we are all different so even with the same symptoms the outcome will be different for each of us. You may find posting in another area of Cancer Chat (see the list to the left of this page) gives you more replies.

I hope you have some support at this time. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi, how did the MRI go? I am experiencing the same. Thanks

  • Hi Amy and thanks for your post

I thought I would jump on and reply as it’s been over a year since Jwmoo posted and you may not get a reply from them.

I’m sorry you are currently experiencing similar symptoms. and can understand you wanting to find out what is causing them.

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Symptoms can have straightforward medical explanations. But only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to make an appointment with your GP to get checked out.

Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. If you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
