Breast cancer recurrence

I was diagnosed with early stage her2- er+ pr+ breast cancer last January. I had a lumpectomy, breast reduction then radiotherapy. I'm on tamoxifen and Zoladex. I found a small hard pea sized lump on the same breast but at the opposite side. Is recurrence possible this soon and would a lump be showing so soon if it is cancer. Obviously I'm aware of scar tissue etc but I'm worried. Phoned bc nurse today and have a mammogram arranged for Tuesday. Also although my nodes were clear there were traces of cancer found in 2 nodes of 3 removed.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about this but I'm afraid that I cannot tell you how likely this is to be a recurrence.  Except to say that while having cancer treatment (you are on hormone therapy which reduces the risk of recurrence) it does make it less likely to be one.

Be reassured that you are having the mammogram to check this out , so you will know more soon.

Waiting for tests to be done can be difficult so I hope you have some support. You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
