Enlarged ovary

Hi I'm 42, no kids and not on birth control I've been having diarrhoea & stomach pains for a over a year now. I had a colonoscopy and a endoscopy and both were clear. I had some blood test which showed I was severely anemic and I saw a different dr at my surgery who referred me for an ultrasound. I had an ultrasound and a internal ultrasound. The dr phoned me with the results a couple of days later saying she had referred me for an urgent gynaecologist appointment. My results were that my left ovary was 8cm x 6cm x 4.4cm she said I also had a blood clot in it too. She said my right ovary was too large for where I was in my cycle and my endometrial layer was 16.8mm thick. She said there was also blood around my ovary's so this could be the cause of my anemia. She wouldn't really answer any question just said to wait for the gynaecologist. I'm worrying over this, any advice on what to ask the gynaecologist when I get an appointment or any advice in general is much appreciated

  • Hello Debz16 and thanks for posting,

Any sort of abnormal test result can be unsettling. From posting here on this forum I am guessing you are concerned about the possibility of cancer. Ovarian cancer isn't common in women still having periods so it is much more likely that something else is causing the bleeding and increase in ovarian size.

When you see them, I expect the gynaecologist will be more forthcoming, but if not, it is ok to ask them what they think is going on or, if they are unsure and want to do more tests, ask what they consider is most likely to explain things.

The 'not knowing' in a situation like this sometimes leads people to go online to look for answers, our advice is to resist the temptation as it usually takes you around in circles without being much the wiser and can keep any worry front of mind. It is usually better to sit tight and wait it out.

I hope your appointment comes through soon.
