really do not know what to do

I had 3 scans in my neck and they have found 2 nodules, one in the Tyroid and one in the paratyroid.  I had 2 biopsys and both came inconclusive.  My consultant wants to operatea and remove them.  The operation does not seem so light so I am thinking about trying to get a second opinion.  I feel so lost with this

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You asked about a second opinion. Biopsies of the thyroid and nearby tissue are often difficult to do, and often have inconclusive results, due to the nature of the tissue structure in that area. It is not uncommon then, for the need to do surgery to obtain more thyroid tissue, in order to get enough information from pathology testing, and to make a clear diagnosis.

I can't advise you either way about getting a second opinion, except to say that another opinion and/or further biopsies, may also result in the same pathology result, and the need for surgery may still remain. Also, seeking a second opinion, can delay diagnosis, as further appointments need to be made.

I hope that you get to find out more soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
