Advice needed kidney mass

Hi,

I have very poorly member of the family with a large mass in the kidney found end summer time 2022. Finally was seen New year. Where the surgeon requested another scan as over three months since last one to check it hasn't spread out of the kidney. They have got other health problems diabetes and MS. They struggle with mobility for a long time anyway but since the last six months this has changed drasticly. Losing blood when passing urine. Feeling sick and being sick. Been prescribed anti sickness. They are pretty sure it's Cancerous but can't confirm until it's out. They made us aware of the risks because they are high risk.

Surgeon can't see them until middle of next month. They have began to lose more blood when passing urine. They rang to ask if they can be seen sooner. They been told nothing available with that surgeon.

I'm not a blood relative but I feel more needs to be done. They not often any support for that person going through this. Is this because they can't confirm it's cancer until removed?

How can I help to make appointment move faster?

You won't leave a pet in this state so why it is ok to do so to them

Really scares me what the NHS is going to be like when I or my children get older and need it.

I apologize for the long post. Just feel everyone is failing them when they need.

Thanks

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your relatives situation and the delays they seem to be having in getting seen. This is understandably upsetting for your relative and the rest of the family so I can appreciate you wanting to do all you can to help.

Firstly I suggest that your relative lets their GP know about the worsening symptoms so they can help best manage these. They may also be able to contact the hospital team to let them know of any changes to see if anything can be done to speed things up.

I would also try and contact the hospital again and if no help from the department itself to contact the hospitals PALS ( Patient Advice and Liaison Service) that you can read more about here. It is through PALS you can also raise a complaint where your relatives case can be looked into to find out more about the delay.

I am sorry I cannot be of more help but do get back in touch if you would like to. The nurses are here weekdays 9-5 on 0808 800 4040.

I hope your relative is seen and has the treatment they need very soon.

    All the best

    Naomi
