  • Hello

Thanks for posting a question for us.  I am sorry to read about your mother's situation.  As yet there are very few treatments that specifically target KRAS mutations, recently one that targets KRAS g12c, sotorasib,  has been approved for use in certain circumstances on the NHS through the cancer drugs fund, but I don't know if this would be suitable for your mother as she has KRAS g12a mutation.

Often having a KRAS mutation is used to give the doctors more general information about the outlook for patients and help them decide what treatments to use rather than helping them decide on a specific drug that targets KRAS mutations.  We have a page on targeted therapies for lung cancers here.  I need to be clear that these newer aspects of cancer treatment are evolving all the time so I would encourage you to talk things through with her specialist, as a nurse rather than a scientist or researcher I am not an expert on the fine detail of gene mutations.

I hope that is of some help

    Martin
