Thickening of Pancreas

Hello..

Back in Nov 22 I attended A and E with severe pelvis pain. Initial thought was I had a twisted Ovary. After an ultrasound that was not the case. They then done a CT scan where they said my pelvis was all clear but they found an area of concern behind my stomach. An area of 'thickening'. I was red flagged for an EUS probe and biopsies the following week. After the procedure the Dr told me he didn't take any biopsies as he didn't see the area of concern!

My follow up app with my original consultant was on 31st Jan. They closed the investigation on my pelvis pain and made a diagnosis of Chronic Pelvis Pain then to my utter shock said I needed an MRI for my pancreas as the MDT said its still an area of concern.

I had the MRI 1 week later. I am now one week on from scan and still could be waiting another week on results.

Has anyone else ever had something picked up on a CT then MRI was fine ? Or will the MRI just highlight the area of concern more for a diagnosis?

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through investigations and I can understand how unsettling it can be.

Very often a patient is discussed in an MDT (multi Disciplinary Team) meeting where all the different doctors involved is someone's case meet to discuss each patient in detail. It is not unusual for a radiographer to suggest further imaging such as an MRI as a further check, particularly as there was an area that they were initially concerned about.

Every patient is different so you may hear from other members of the forum but you really can't compare one person with another.

Try to keep an open mind and not to over think it all if you possibly can.

I do hope that you know more soon.

If you would like to chat any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are very welcome to do so.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
