Swollen lymph nodes in neck and groin for 16 months

Hi,

I don't know if anyone can but any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! November 2021 I noticed 2 swollen lymph nodes on the right side of my neck, after not disappearing for 6 weeks i went to the GP, they put me on the 2 week wait list and was able to get an appointment with hematology on christmas eve. By this point I had the 2 enlarged lymph nodes on my neck and also 2 lymph nodes on my groin, both the right side of my body and had dropped some weight, not drastically but i was trying to put weight on and it wasn't happening i was just losing it. He sent me for blood tests which came back fine and examined me, after that he said he felt fine to discharge me.

Now 16 months on I have 4 on the right side of my neck/back of head and 2 still on the right side of my groin, (i am able to feel others on my belly and collarbone however they are small the ones mentioned before are larger than pea sized) i wouldn't be bothered too much but for the last 6 months the neck and groin ones having been causing some issues, if i walk or have my leg bent for long periods of time my groin hurts, sharp shooting pains down inside of my thigh and a gnawing burn with the lymph nodes feeling harder. Then in my neck i'll get random pain from where the lymph nodes are, its like an intense ache, i had assumed they were pressing on something like a nerve but i'm just so lost with all of this and not sure if i should go back to the doctors or if its normal and i've just got to put up with it. Sorry for such long paragraphs, i've been overthinking this for a while and have a fear of going to the doctors so didn't know what else to do :( thankyou!

  • Hello Anon-123 and thanks for posting,

I am not sure that you are overthinking, it sounds like you have some troublesome symptoms that are unexplained so naturally they play on your mind. It is reasonable enough to be asking your doctor for a review and this is what I would suggest you do.

Doctors are often looking to exclude potential conditions that can be associated with a set of symptoms. Large lymph nodes can occur for a number of reasons so it might be worth asking what they have been ruled out.

In general lymph nodes less that 1 cm aren't usually much of a worry, but I really do think it is worth seeing the doctor as this is the only way to get reassessed and hopefully find out what is going on.
