Question for a nurse

Pea sized cyst was found by a scan. I had bleeding nipple for a week and constantly having clear discharge. They straight away booked a second appointment after 6 weeks and I been told to watch for bleeding. Biopsy was not completed. I was told I was too young to have operation because I would not be able to breast feed.

why could possibly they need to see me after 6 weeks?what normally happens on second appoitment?

Many thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I know this must be worrying you but I do think that you need to be reassured that the breast team want to see you again.

Because they have to take into account the risk of damaging your nipple they will only do a biopsy if it is really needed. It seems to me that at the moment they are not sure if it is needed and that's why they want to see you again to find out if it is getting better or not. So please follow their advice and keep a record of the discharge; when it happens and if blood is in it or not.

It is not unusual for a doctor to want to see someone again, and is testament to how thorough they are being.

I'm sure you know this doesn't mean you necessarily have cancer so if you can try and keep busy and focused on other things.

I hope you have some support and please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
