Hi,
About a year ago I was admitted to hospital, I had been having pain in my lower left abdomen for months but suddenly developed a fever, freezing cold hands and feet. After a CT scan, I was told it was diverticulitis and was treated with an IV drip with antibiotics and monitored for a few days. About 6 months later, I was given a sigmoidoscopy as a follow up, where it was determined that I had little or no sign of any diverticular disease. I was still feeling dull constant pain in my lower left abdomen. More recently I have a constant dull ache in my back as well as left abdomen which increases as I get closer to my period. I have bleeding before I actually get my period and I'm always very bloated. I also suffer from a very sluggish bowel. I've explained this to my doctor and am now booked for an ultrasound. Should I be worried? I have had this constant pain before I was admitted to hospital over a year ago. I always just assumed it was period pain and lived with it. I don't think in hindsight that I actually had diverticulitis in the first place and this was more a gynaecological issue??? It now makes more sense after little to no problems with my sigmoidoscopy result. I'm 49 and have had two children.
Grateful for any advice you can give. Thank you
