Enlarged lymph nodes on ct scan

I recently had a whole body ct scan because of several months of thoracic back pain. The scan was normal except for some enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen, near the bowel. I've been told my case has gone to a gynaecology mdt meeting because I had a total hysterectomy and ovaries removed 7 years ago. I'm really confused because my ovarian tumour was not malignant. After googling I found primary peritoneal cancer and I'm now worried that's what they are thinking about. I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but can enlarged lymph nodes on ct  be the first/only sign of cancer? Are enlarged nodes in the abdomen ever something non- sinister?

  • Hello

I suspect you have been refered to the gynaecology MDT because you have been seen by them before and the enlarged lymph nodes are in the area close to where you had previous surgery.  But I don't think you should jump to conclusions about what the cause of the enlarged nodes might be.  Lymph nodes can be enlarged for many different reasons (sometimes they enlarge and no one is quite sure why) but it is good to get them investigated just in case.  I know its hard when you are not sure what is going on but It is probably best to try and avoid looking things up on the internet at the moment, this will not tell you why the lymph nodes are enlarged in your situation and is likely to worry you more.

    Take care

    Martin.
