Hello
Thanks for posting on Cancer Chat. You have posted in the "Ask the Nurse" topic area so I am replying to you, but you may also get some input from other members of the community. I wasn't sure from your post if you had been told that your thyroid cancer had come back or if you were just concerned about this, so do forgive me if any of the information I give doesn't fit your situation. Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type, it usually grows quite slowly. If it were to recur It is hard to say how long it might take as this could vary quite a lot. generally it is treated with surgery sometimes followed with radioactive iodine treatment which can also be used if the cancer recurs. Other targeted drugs can also be used if the cancer comes back. Survival rates for papillary thyroid cancer are generally high.
We have more detasiled information on Thyroid cancer on our website here

I hope that has been helpful
