Worried about symptoms

Hi,

im new to this and am not really sure what I need other than some practical advice.
I'm late 40's and had been on the pill for many years therefore hadn't had a period for as long as I remember. In Jan 2021 I started getting cramps, long story short I was diagnosed with 2 uterine fibroids @2cm. In Sept 22 I started bleeding, a mix of pink, red, brown and black with clots along with awful cramps. Went to GP who said it would be the fibroids and that they weren't concerned because at my age they'll start to shrink. Fast forward to Feb 23, I'm still bleeding and my symptoms are very different. I've no idea about weight lost but I'm 3 holes down on my belt, I have terrible daily cramp, pain in my hips, particularly left side and my back and legs. Bleeding post sex now and I'm so swollen and bloated I'm just not sure what to do. I had my 3 yearly smear last week, when I had three days of no bleeding, but the nurse said it coukd take 6 weeks for results. I'm really worried about the increase in my symptoms and feel like k should be doing something but I don't know what.

I've convinced myself I've got cancer, something just isn't right. I don't smell like me, it's not a bad smell but it's not my smell. Any advice or similar situations?

thank you

  • Hi Dotlinedot

Firstly, I'm hoping you are okay.
I saw my GP who examined me again and took further swabs. For the very first time I was heard and my symptoms were taken seriously and not put down to age. I have to get bloods in the morning and I've been referred for an urgent scan.
A bit scary but I am thankful. The internal examination and swabs have made the pain and bleeding worse but I guess I can live with that.

    Fingers crossed.

  • Ah delighted you got somewhere today, hopefully it will all be good news for you.

They are trying to get my MRI pushed forward to next week so here's hoping.

    Take care

  • Thank you and that's great news about your MRI! I hope you are feeling a bit more reassured.

Had my blood results, everything normal other than my CA 125 which is raised. I have an ultrasound on Monday so we'll see.

  • Good luck with the ultrasound, I've gp appointment to check my leg tomorrow although I think waiting two weeks to see my gp who will refer me for an extra is crazy.

My CA 125 is also high and always has been, they told me that's normal with Endometriosis, apparently Endometriosis is the cause for all my symptoms when I know it's definitely not.

Hope you had a stress free weekend

  • Thank you

I hope your gp appointment goes well and you get some answers. Nothing more frustrating when everything is out under one umbrella.

what is your ca, if you don't mind me asking.

I feel pretty stressed although despite the stress I haven't bled today... bonus.

    Good luck.

Update- I had ultrasound scan this morning followed by in internal probe type scan, which was weirdly uncomfortable. I was home about 2 hours when I received a call with a consultant appointment on Wednesday and to be prepared for a biopsy. Is this routine or is this because of my scan results?

Really impressed with the speed of things but also quite nervous about it too.

  • So the doctor is happy that there are no clots in my legs but is sending me of to get alot of blood work done, I was bever actually told what my levels were regarding my CA 125 just told by my gynae it was quite high but its expected with endometriosis.

Glad things are moving quickly for you, my appointments are taken forever, literally 2 weeks to see my gp and earliest I can get bloods done is the 10th of March. Try not to panic so much regarding how quickly your seeing the consultant and if anything if a biopsy is done then you will know whats going on and get a plan in action.

I myself haven't bled in a few days however I am due my period next week so should be interesting to see what it's like.

Please let me know how Wednesday goes and hopefully you will get answers

  • That's such good news about your leg and a relief for you I imagine. Hopefully the results of your bloods will be reassuring rather than giving you cause for concern.

Don't get me wrong, I know how lucky I am that things are moving fast but the assumption with that is that they've seen something? I have nothing to base that on so I just need to have a word with myself, Wednesday is only a day away.

k don't know about you but being free of bleeding for just a couple of days feels like Christmas.

    Good luck with your bloods

  • If I'm honest I would have rather been told its a clot only because I'd have an answer, although the pain in my calf has now become a dull ache but every few days it seizes up.

Don't get me wrong I'm delighted I'm no longer bleeding but still have the fear of when it's going to start again or how bad its going to be.

My partner thinks if anything was there surely they would have picked it up in scans last August when I had the miscarriage but I'm not so sure, so we are thinking of going to a private clinic for another scan before my MRI.

Hopefully tomorrow you will get answers,  it will be interesting to hear what your consultant has to say. I'll be thinking of you

  • Not having answers us so difficult isn't it.

I exii poo etc to see it when I go to the loo and I'm honestly so happy when I don't, although I'm never with out pad, just in case.

well you world certainly think so but again, I don't think we can ever be certain about anything, unfortunately. At least you should have some answers on 10th March! Fingers crossed.

I will keep you posted with what the results are. Husband has gone into overdrive checking life insurance and critical illness cover etc... Coming from a good place but doing my head in.

  • I just received a call from the miscarriage clinic, I was there in January to get results as to what happened the baby and the consultant did bloods just to check my hormones, so they are all in the normal range and confirmed I'm not hitting menopause yet. That was playing on my mind thinking maybe I was pre menopausal and although it's good to hear and another thing I can tick of still doesn't help.

I did mention scans I had done and he said that the lining of the womb would measure differently in pregnancy, he did mention that there was a cyst on my right ovary that was getting slightly bigger but they weren't concerned as it looked normal. This was never mentioned to me before but I do have a history of ovarian cysts. I'm going to book ultrasound and internal scan privately now.

I'm the same wearing pads everyday, January I only had bleeding twice, my period and two after it started bleeding again. Same this month but although pad is clean sometimes there is spotting just when I wipe.

Your poor husband, my partner can't say anything right at the moment, I'm sure their minds are going into overdrive aswell
