Mole fears

Hello,

Feeling really foolish and anxious this evening. Yesterday I attended a GP appointment to get some moles checked. After the birth of my daughter, three years ago, I gained and new mole on my stomach and foolishly never thought to get it checked out, as it didn't tick any of the boxes for being suspicious. GP is now referring me to see dermatologist but didn't think it looked concerning.

However since my appointment yesterday, I've become really worried about a flat mole above my eyebrow, which I hadn't thought about prior to yesterday's appointment. I've had it for at least 10 years but during my last pregnancy it got darker and grew in size- darker brown, round, symmetrical and flat. Again foolishly it never occurred to me to get this checked out. I assumed it was the result of hormonal changes. I'd also  been reassured by the fact that in the time that has passed since the birth of my child, its significantly lightened and looks completely faded in parts. Is this normal? Or indicative of something more sinister? I'm now going out of my mind worrying that this is a skin change I should have got checked a long time ago.

I also have no idea how long I'll have to wait to see a dermatologist. I'm not sure if my GP would have done it as an urgent referral.

any advice would be greatly welcomed!

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I think because this other mole (above your brow ) is really worrying you that you may want to get back in touch with the GP that referred you to let them know. It could add information to the referral. You could also ask about the kind of referral it was and how long you could expect to wait. Knowing this might give you a bit more control over the situation and hopefully make you worry less.

If you find out where you have been referred to and if you have not heard in another couple of weeks about your appointment you could get in touch with the dermatology clinic to ask about it.

Waiting to be seen I know can be an anxious time so I hope you have some support and keeping busy can help take your mind of worrying things too.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
