Burdock root and LHRH agonists

Hi,

I'm needing some information about the use of Burdock root to give my father a bit of a helping hand with his liver and kidney function. However, he's currently on injections for prostate cancer and I'm very aware that many herbs can counteract treatment so I'm wary of offering him this.

I would normally consider burdock root a hormonal adaptogen, but I'm not an expert. Does anyone here happen to know if those on hormone treatment for prostate cancer can also use Burdock root?

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, we are not able to give specific advice regarding the use of herbal supplements, whilst having cancer treatment.

We have information about this here,

    www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../complementary-alternative-therapies

If someone decides to take any complementary treatments or herbal supplements alongside conventional treatment do check them with their doctor first.  Sometimes there are known interactions between some of these therapies and conventional medicines, in other situations it might not be generally known whether they have a beneficial or a harmful effect.

I hope this helps. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
