Worried I may have basal skin carcinoma

Hi, I've had a pimple on my cheek that's been there for 2-3 years now, I'm 17 years old and have never really sunbathed for prolonged amounts of time so I'm not sure whether or not I'm prone to this skin cancer. I've never had it looked at for treatment It's always just been there, recently I've started fixating on it though and I plan to see a dermatologist as soon as possible. Appearance wise, It's smooth to touch with no crustation and doesnt secrete anything, in size it's definitely noticeable on my face but has never really grown much, only has a slight redness around it and the 'lump' hasn't risen any higher. I'm desperate to know if this is just a stubborn pimple that requires specific treatment or something more concerning. Although I don't know how common non-cancerious long lasting pimples are. I'm going to attatch an image below it would be highly appreciated if anyone who is informed could take a look and tell me what they think at first glance. Thank you.

  • Hello and thank you for your post. Unfortunately, as nurses, we do not assess symptoms, and therefore photos are not permitted on this forum.

If you are concerned, then do ask to speak with your doctor at your GP Practice, and they can assess it.

Generally, signs of skin cancer would include any changes in shape, colour, or size, over at least a 4 to 6 week period. You could always take a photo and review it by comparing with another photo taken over this time period. GP's are generally very experienced in looking at skin lesions and moles, and would refer on if they thought it needed to be assessed by a dermatologist. Most skin problems that GP's see are not skin cancer, and have straightforward explanations. But it is sensible to get things checked out.

I hope that this is helpful,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
