Pain in remaining kidney after nephrectomy

Is it natural to have pain in the other kidney I'm 6 weeks after my op thanks in advance.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we can't say what might be causing you to experience pain in your other kidney. It possibly could be due to inflammation or infection. But only a doctor can make a medical assessment, so it's best to make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out just to be on the safe side. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope things improve for you soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi thanks for the response, do you know anywhere I can access guidelines to what dietary requirements I need and ones to avoid I suspect this could be causing it I'm eating healthy and drinking plenty of fluids just don't want to be eating anything that can make it worse thanks in advance.

  • Hello and thank you for getting back in touch with us.

If you have been told to follow a specific diet by the urology team caring for you, then do that. Otherwise there is no specific guidance for cancer patients to follow. The advice is usually to follow a diet that is healthy. Another charity called Kidney Cancer UK , give information and advice about eating healthy with a diagnosis of kidney cancer, you can see it here

If you have concerns that you should be following a specific diet related to your kidney function then please do ask your team about this.

I hope this has been helpful.

    Take care,

    Caroline
