Hi, I have recently been contacted about my biopsy for suspected cancerous lision that I had surgery to remove. I have been told that early indicators suggest it's benign but they have said they are still awaiting some test results.

What other test results could they be waiting for if they have had the histology report?

I think my anxiety levels are at there peak.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I'm sorry to hear that you are living with the uncertainty of biopsy results.

As you tell us - the early indicators suggest this is benign, they are still waiting for further results of the tissue, I am afraid I cannot know exactly why but getting the full result will mean different tests will be done on the tumour to understand more about how the cells are behaving and to give a full result.

Sometimes a second opinion is needed, if so, the tissue will be sent to a different hospital for a histologist to look at it and give their opinion. However, that is not necessarily what is happening to your biopsy.

Waiting for results is difficult and can take a couple of weeks, sometimes longer, to be known. So I hope you have support.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
