tonsil regrowth hearing issue

Hello, I had a complete tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy as a baby. I am 26, and I have had some new hearing loss which has lasted a couple of months, along with new daily headaches, sore throat, redness and what I think is some tonsil/adenoid regrowth and a new mouth ulcer. This is all on the right-hand side of my face. I have experienced a loss of smell over the last few years and have ongoing issues in my nose (runny, random nosebleeds, feeling blocked/stuffy and sinus pain in the face) which have worsened in the last couple of months. I have also had a lot of weight loss (20%) since September 2022 and I feel tired, I feel freezing cold a lot of the time and my hand and feet never stay warm for very long. I saw my GP who said I have a tense eardrum and to increase my mometasone nasal spray use to 2x twice daily along with naseptin nasal cream. I have done this for 14 days and I don't feel any improvement in symptoms. I have also felt increased neck pain over the last month and experienced insomnia which I have never had trouble with. I am not sure what I should do. I saw an ENT this time last year for sinus and smell issues and they did general allergy tests which came back normal and told me to sinus rinse and discharged me. I did the sinus rinsing for quite a few months but experienced almost no relief from the symptoms. I had a deviated septum correction in 2017. I am not sure if these symptoms are something I should be worried about or if I should make another GP appointment to discuss it as I feel like my few attempts have been met with annoyance that I keep asking to discuss my symptoms. thanks.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your ongoing symptoms and can only image how frustrating this must be for you.

When symptoms persist it is always a good idea to revisit your GP or another GP in the practice who may be able to give you another opinion and some ideas that might help with your symptoms. We can't diagnose you but there are many conditions other then cancer that could be causing your symptoms particularly at your young age.

I would also speak to a pharmacist to see if they have any suggestions. NHS have written some information on sinusitis which you can look at here

There is also an organisation called ENTUK and they may have some thoughts on how to help your symptoms. Have a look here

I hope you feel better soon.

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
