Swollen lymph nodes for 6 months and lump on head

Hi everyone ,

please help me .I am so worried and constantly thinking I'm going to die soon. Googling isn't helping either but I have serious health anxiety and can't stop myself from googling things .

I have had these swollen lymph nodes in the submandibular area (under my jaw) for about 6 months now.Note that I canotactdy GP earlier 3 weeks after I discovered these nodes. He referred me for an ultrasound but it came back clear .I was told that they're just reactive lymph nodes. Although they did go down a bit after the ultrasound, they're still there ...it's been 6pm that now and they haven't fully gone down. You can't see it but can be felt when I lean my chin on my chest and feel under my jaws .Also, my wisdom teeth has been coming out and I've had some pain in both sides of my teeth where the teeth is coming out for 6 months now so since the ultrasound came back clear , I was blaming the swollen nodes on the wisdom teeht .

and then all of a sudden , I was experiencing some very Sever neck pain , I took some naproxen and the pain completely disappeared but it left another small lump on the back of my neck .I thought it was a muscle knot but it's been two weeks now and it's still there . I also found another hard lump at the back of my head 2 weeks ago. It's not movable but also not growing .and recently, my blood tests were showing high b12 levels .My doctor doesn't seem worried about the high b12 .He referred me to an haemotologist who isn't worried either .: these swollen nodes are the only symptoms I have .No night sweats, no fever, no tiredness .No other symptoms at all but I'm dead worried ! All I think about is cancer !

please help...has anyone ever had similar symptoms which turned out not to be cancer ?

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm afraid I don't know why you have these symptoms, but it is good that the doctor and haematologist weren't concerned about your bloods and your ultrasound came back normal.

It can be difficult when we have felt unwell or had unexplained symptoms and we are told that everything is fine. This can be particularly hard when you already have health anxiety and everything you look on on google is tailored towards a cancer diagnosis.

I think if you can go back to your GP and talk through how you are feeling and your anxiety around your health this may help to calm your fears. Your mental and emotional health is just as important as your physical, so talking it out and maybe researching some support techniques could be useful.

I've placed here a link from the NHS site on health anxiety which maybe helpful.

I know you have asked for other forum users to come forward, but as this is a cancer forum and everyone's situations are quite individual it may not be helpful for you.

Take care Gxy, and I hope you know more about how you are feeling soon.

    Sarah.
