I've a loved one going in for surgery very soon for removing disease as a result of breast cancer.
im really worried about losing them, it's just my biggest fear. How safe are the surgeries that take place?

Hello Stardust123,

Cancer surgeons are highly skilled and continue to huge advances in the treatment and subsequent recovery of patients. Bear in mind there is a whole team of multi-disciplines that work together as a well coordinated unit using a range of skills which is bought to bear for the best possible results
I can safely say that l am able to write this reply because of them for at least three seperate life threatening incidents, with the remainder being life changing. Cancer teams are highly skilled in their field
l do not think you could have a better reccomendation than that, so look forward to welcoming your loved one back to full health,
David
Hello there
I am very sorry to hear a loved one of yours is due to have some surgery soon. It is natural to be worried about them but try not to over think things if you can.
Breast surgeries are carried out every day across the world and all the health professionals working in operating theatres are highly skilled and trained to reduce the risk of complications and anything serious happening.
Whilst no surgery is without risk, the risk with breast cancer surgery is considered extremely low and it is considered a safe procedure.
Doctors always assess the patients general health and fitness to decide whether they are suitable for surgery and won't operate unnecessarily.
Do talk to your loved one about your thoughts and feelings about this up coming surgery so they can also put your mind at ease.
Wishing you and your loved one all the very best
Take care
Naomi
Hi Its always a bit worrying to have surgery as it's the unknown, cancer specialists are at the top of their profession and able to perform intricate surgery when required my breast surgery has been very successful over the years and multiple surgeries
I recently had gynaecology surgery and it took hours cancelling the rest of the list as the oncology surgeon carefully removed the adhesions sticking my overy down. She said most surgeons would have bailed out and left them in situ, lm glad she didn't as the pain in my left side that l had for many years has now settled.
Aneasthetics are really safe now and are now really well monitored. They Wake you up asap. Operations appear to last ages as you go through recovery before returning to the ward they may keep you longer until you are comfortable. Many operations are now available using local anaesthetic.
There is a team looking after you in theatre ensuring your safety and comfort.
Take care and try to relax l hope all goes well
