And so on..
So I went to gp who then sent me to ENT he put a camera down nose etc couldn’t see anything at all but said there’s lots of fluid in nose etc
Then sent me for mri scans of head and sinuses went for them haven’t heard back for months had it in October so I thought it was end of it no explanation as nothing wrong! but been feeling even more tired nose is even worse etc headaches..but yesterday out the blue I have been sent a letter stating that I have got to attend for a US guided aspiration neck I have been trying to get hold of ENT and consultant nothing no answers not explanations of why I need this on the letter is says the consultant should of discussed the reasons I need this etc but nothing no mri results nothing!
could someone please tell me why they do this test and if they have ever had anything similar but not sent for straight away!?
Thanks for reading

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and I can appreciate you want to know more about the need for the ultrasound guided aspiration of your neck.  It sounds like information is missing that I'm afraid we cannot fill you in about. It has to come from the medical team that wants you to have it.

You may find that your GP has more information about this so you might want to contact them about it. However, when you get to the hospital to have the procedure done you will know, so you might have to wait until then.

I realise that this is a worrying time for you so I hope you have some support and that perhaps someone can go with you to have this done and to hear about why it is being done.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thank you for your response. I have spoken to another doctor today they didn't tell me much as couldn't see measurements etc but they just told me I need to go for the fna because they have found a lump on my lymph node.. what are normally lumps on the lymphnodes? As researching doesn't really help!

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are undergoing further tests and appreciate this must be a worry.

There can be many reasons for lymph nodes to be swollen or enlarged ( and I think that is what the doctor was referring to) but it is only the fine needle aspirate that can confirm what this lump may be.

As you say searching on the internet cannot diagnose you or tell you what the matter is i'm afraid, so try and sit tight for now and see what the results show.

Most lumps aren't caused by anything as serious as a cancer but often tests such as biopsies are needed to rule something more sinister out.

I hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay.

    Take care

    Naomi
