slight nausea after right hemicolectomy and hepatectomy

About 20 months ago I was diagnosed with Stage IV bowel cancer with numerous mets in the liver. About a year ago, I underwent a right hemicolectomy and hepatectomy. Physically I have recovered well, but I am still suffering from slight nausea most days. Eating usually helps a bit, but it has been a permanent problem since my surgery.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about the nausea that you are experiencing I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you.

In the first instant I would check with your GP whether you need any up to date bloods to see if your levels are all okay as this can make a huge difference.

We do have some tips on our website for helping control nausea which you can see here

We have some other tips for controlling nausea here

Small frequent meals, drinks made with fresh ginger may help. It really is a quesrtion on seeing what works.Marie Curie have a list of different complimentary therapies that you might find helpful but it is probably a good idea to check this with your GP or palliative Care nurse if you have one. Have a look at the list here

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread you may find you get more replies.

Do speak to your GP or your specialist or palliative nurse if the nausea continues they may be able to suggest some different antiemetics (anti Sickness) if your symptoms persist.

If you would like to chat any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then do get back to us or give us a ring.

We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Very Best,

    Catherine
