If cancer is suspected your friend should be put on the pathway. I was diagnosed following a positive fit test. I received a letter for a telephnoe pre screen and advised i would have a two week window for the colonoscopy.

I was told after the colonoscopy that i had a large tumour and was given a blood test that day . I was put forward for the mdt meeting the following week and the sister pushed for urgent scans.

I was contacted by the consultants secretary to meet with him 2 weeks later and had my ooeration 3 weeks later.

It was all very quick and will never be able to thank the sister enough on the colonoscopy unit. 

Hi Gilly37. Thank you for the reply. I was surprised the consultant didn't say anything about timings. That's what made me feel maybe it wasn't so urgent. He was, however, clear about the need to check for cancer. My friend actually had a number of colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies with the type of polyp that causes cancer in the past (they found high-grade dysplasia) but this time the symptoms are different – no bleeding.

I am sorry to hear your friend is currently undergoing some tests and appreciate wanting to know a little more.

As Gilly37 has helpfully said if cancer is a possible cause of symptoms then the patient will be popped on to the suspected cancer pathway which is the quickest way for any tests to be carried out.

Usually a colonoscopy will be arranged within 2 weeks but as I am sure you are aware at the moment some people are having to wait a little longer for tests and the results.

Hopefully your friend will know more soon but if they haven't heard anything in the next week I suggest they call the hospital to ask.

Hi mine was exactly the same high grade dysplasia but was told at the time the colonoscopy dont take biopsies from the base which, is nearly always cancerous. 

I was through the screening programme and had a high fit test so was automatically put on the 2 week pathway. From there to treatment it is 62 day to mert target. I was operated on on the 5th week from colonoscopy. 

Hope that helps. If they find cancer you are automatically put on the pathway. 

So there's now a date in February. I guess it definitely is a cancer pathway! Thanks again for all the helpful info Gilly.
