LLETZ during period

Hi

booked for a LLETZ Procedure tomorrow but started my period last night, can't get hold of the clinic. Do I still go or not?

any advice?

  • Hi Kelly and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I noticed you had a question for our nurses about whether to attend your LLETZ procedure tomorrow so I just wanted to let you know that they do not work at the weekend and won't be able to get back to you about this until tomorrow onwards.

If you're seeking an answer today I would suggest getting in touch with the NHS on 111. Do keep trying to get in touch with your clinic as well.

Our nurses do have a helpline that will be open from 9a.m tomorrow on 0808 800 4040, so if your appointment is in the afternoon, then you're welcome to give them a call about this tomorrow morning.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I hope you're able to get some answers soon and if you are advised to attend tomorrow appointment, that all goes well with the procedure.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello there

I hope you managed to get through to the colposcopy and have a plan of what needs to happen for you.

Generally speaking if the period is light they can often still treat with LLETZ but often they prefer to delay treatment until they can visualise the cervix and the abnormal areas more clearly.

    Do get back if needed.

    All the best

    Naomi
