CT Scan results - GP wants to see me

Hi,

Approx a year ago I was referred to Gynaecology as I was having pain in my left abdomen and spotting. After a biopsy all was fine except some polyps and fibroids I had to have removed. In the last 6mths I have had intense pain on the left side of my back (comes and goes and last a few days) and realised what I thought was 'spotting' is actually blood in my urine. I am also need to urinate frequently, every 30mins and through the night. I was referred for a CT scan this week and told it takes 4wks to get results and I should call my GP for an update. 2 days after my scan I had a call from the surgery booking an appointment for next Friday to discuss scan. Do GP's make appointments if your scan is clear?

If there is an issue, I don't think it would be serious as I assume they would have made an appointment sooner but wondered what other things they may have picked up? Or should I say what other things do they check for?

I have an appointment with Urology on Thursday too. Do you know what this will involve? Should I still attend if on my cycle as I'm not sure it involves internal checks. Thank you in advance.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you are waiting to hear the results of a CT scan you had.

It looks like you have a GP appointment as well as a hospital urology one. It's likely that at both you will be given the results of the CT scan you had and yes it is possible that they will still want to tell you the results even if it is okay.

I think at each of these appointments you will get more information and know if you need any further investigations. It is fine to go to your urology appointment if you have your period. The doctor will decide what , if any , investigations or tests you will need.

I hope you have support. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
