Dermoid cyst

Hi there really looking to find out if anyone on here if anyone else has had similar symptoms as me during the times of having a dermoid cyst.
so back in December I paid for a private scan because I had excruciating pain in my ovary area and could barely move or even speak because the pain was that bad. I have had this on going for the past 3 months and seems to happen after my cycle finishes. I have other side effects like my whole body has a weird sensation through it ny head is all blurry. Just really don't feel good within myself and very emotional to say the least and seems to last for at least 2 weeks after I finish my period.
I am still waiting on a gynaecologist appointment to see what plan they will come up for me.

thank you in advance for any replies!!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It may be helpful to make an appointment to see your GP to get some advice about pain relief until you manage to see the gynaecologist. You can also explain about how it is affecting you emotionally.

The Royal College of gynaecologists have written some helpful information about ovarian cysts which you might find helpful to read here

Ovarian cysts are common and are mostly benign (not cancerous) particularly before the menopause and in deciding how to treat them the gynaecologist will take in to account your age, any symptoms you are having and the size of the cyst.

The charity Target Ovarian Cancer also has some useful information about ovarian cysts and how they are treated which you can see here

I do hope that your appointment with the gynaecologist is soon so you know what your next steps are in treating your symptoms, but do make an appointment with your GP before that if the pain continues.

I hope some of these links are helpful and will be useful to read before you meet up with the gynaecologist but if you want to talk anything through with one of the helpline nurses then do give us a ring. We are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and are number is freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
