Stomach cancer - full removal of stomach

My sister had her stomach removed 5 years ago and is having terrible trouble eating.  She has to be fed by tube at night because she got so weak but the tube in her nose is causing her throat to be sore.  I would be grateful for any suggestions to help her.  She is 82 years old.

  • Hi Mikeymo and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister's situation.

Does she have a nurse team who help her manage her feeding tube?  It would be good to let them know about her sore throat, as they will be able to help with what may be causing the sore throat and assess her.

If you are unable to speak to them you could ask the GP.

I hope this is helpful and your sister's throat is better soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rachel
