Advice re cancer back pain

I am having tests today towards trying to establish whether or not I have cancer, and most probably liver cancer.

My first presenting symptoms were chronic (+6 weeks) all over over the body itching, and whilst I thought this was a clear sign of cancer, my GP didn't agree but said he would request a panel of blood tests just give me the reassurance that the cause of my itching lay elsewhere.

Since I saw my GP on Tuesday, I have had pains in my upper tummy, and whilst I've never had appendicitis, it is exactly how the pains have been described to me.

These pains are random and intermittent and only started last night, but I have also been having slight soreness at a particular point right in the very very middle of the right scapula.

I know you won't want to worry me unduly when it could be down to something else, but would this be the area where back pain from from liver cancer would present? I've been unable to find any clear photos or drawings of this, and whilst I am certain that this is the case, I would like to have the advices of qualified opinion.

Whilst the development of these pains is worrying enough, it still remains the case that I don't have any jaundice, loss of appetite, loss of weight nor any of the other stated symptoms of liver cancer, and only have the itching and the intermittent tummy and back pains so far.

Any advice that you could give me would be very gratefully received.

  • Hello and thank you for getting back to us, and I'm sorry you are still having these worries about liver cancer.

It really is only your doctor who can assess your symptoms and decide if further action needs to happen. They have ordered some blood tests so you will have those taken today, lets see what results they bring.

Lots of different things can cause aches and pains in the body, and they aren't necessarily to do with cancer.

Anxiety about health issues can be very difficult to deal with, here is a link talking more about this.

Do take care and talk things through with your doctor.

    Sarah.
