CETUXIMAB

Anybody know if there are new rules regarding having CETUXIMAB after a 4month break ?
Thank you

  • Hi Dolly8 and thanks for posting,

I'm not sure which new rules you are talking about, but I think it might be the treatment break rule. This rule meaning that people could not take breaks longer than 6 weeks from Cetuximab, when it was being used to treat advanced bowel cancer, was put on hold during the pandemic.  It is still on hold now.

This means that people having cetuximab as a treatment for advanced bowel cancer can take a break for longer than 6 weeks, and can restart treatment without having to pay for it themselves.  You can read more about this here

If you and your team agree that you are able to restart this treatment you should still be able to have Cetuximab.  You can talk this through with your doctor or specialist nurse.

    I hope this is helpful.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You might like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Rachel
