Pain and upset belly after colonoscopy 2 weeks ago

Hi

new to this group but don’t want to bother my doctor If this is normal. This is my 2nd colonoscopy and I bleed the 1st time but I was fine with no bowl issues afterwards.  This time when they tried to remove the growths I was in a lot of pain on the right hand side but they managed and told me everything looked fine but the growths would be sent off.  I didn’t go to the toilet for three days afterwards which I found strange but I have been tender Inthe area he was trying to remove a growth.  I then Had bad diahoria on and off for a few days is was over Xmas so I put this down to be emptied out then eating rich food.  Then I started getting uncomfortable pain in my right side again but then I ended up being  constipated. The pain has been on and off but today I have had diahoria again I have hardly eaten all day just cereal and a sandwich and taken Imodium this morning to start with pain and upset stomachs again literally half an hour after eating.  If this sounds normal that’s fine I will let it settle down.  Just wondered if anyone had any advice.  Thank you

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

Sorry to hear about you needing a second colonoscopy and the symptoms you are experiencing since.

It is normal to not need to empty your bowels and experience some cramping and discomfort for a few days after but this should then settle down.

There could be other reasons not linked to the procedure causing the diarrhoea and pain but it would be best to speak to your GP just to be on the safe side. Of course if the symptoms become more severe call NHS111 for advice.

Unfortunately without being involved directly with any patients care here it is difficult to know or say what is going on.

I hope things settle soon and you get the results back soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thank you I have tried to call my doctor and 111 it’s a nightmare at the moment I am going to see if it settles over the next few days thanks for your reply

  • Hi following my last colonoscopy l went to the loo twice then settled without being too loose , my side was painful but l later found out it was because of my ovarian cysts and adhesions, the bowel was fine.

l would send a message on he 111 service you type in your symptoms and they reply or ring you quite quickly,  my daughter used the service on Friday for her little boy, spoke to the on call GP for 30 minutes about when they rang an hour later.

They have been really helpful and gave her antibiotics then rang again on Saturday to see how he was.

If you prefer you can leave your doctor a message at your surgery and then they will either send a message via the receptionist or a doctor will ring you. I was told last week that no appointments were available for Thursday to ring again on Tuesday at 10 am and maybe get one .  l  Asked if they could send dr message for me and he rang me 20 minutes later to change my medication again.
l hope you are feeling better soon
