Pea sized lump in armpit.

Hi, only really posting this as I'm not sure what to do.
I'm 27 years old and for the past 6 weeks I have noticed a small, pea sized lump in my armpit. Not sure how long it's actually been there. There is no pain or tenderness around the lump.

I did wait to see if it was maybe a swollen gland as I've had the horrible bug everyone's been having. Feeling better just got a cough now but the lump is still there.

I'm not sure whether to go to the doctor or to see a nurse as I'm also not sure if it's just a blood vessel I can feel. I can't feel any other lumps in my breasts but occasionally I have made tiny drops of breast milk. My daughter is 3+1/2 so not that, and I'm not pregnant.

I just don't know whether to see any one as I don't want to waste any bodies time. What should I do

  • Good morning,

Please be better safe than sorry there's always a chance that it's just a gland/cyst/breast tissue etc but if that lump isn't usual for your body it's always better to get it checked if for nothing more than your own piece of mind, that alone is not a waste of time.

I'm 35 and found a completely painless little lump in my armpit few months ago assumed it was a gland acting up for whatever reason and thought no more of it, mine however has grown and so I went to my GP last week who sent me onto breast clinic for further tests which I had yesterday now got to await my results.

Wishing you all the best whatever you decide

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear how you have been feeling. The lump that you have been feeling maybe just a swollen lymph gland which has come up as a result of your recent infection. Lumps under the arm are common and can up up when an infection is present. The NHS have written some information about swollen glands here

I think that it would be unlikely to be anything too serious but of course we can't diagnose you and if it does not settle down int the next couple of weeks that it is probably a good idea to make an appointment with your GP. Hopefully. they will be able to put your mind at rest.

    I hope this helps.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
