Hpv positive and borderline changes to cells for 3 years

Hi,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice please, I've just received my smear results which are positive hpv and borderline changes.  I'm not too worried as I've had these same results for the past 3 years now, each year they have took biopsies said i have CIN 1 then said to just come back in a year for another smear test.

Which they have done for the past 3 years.

My question is does anyone know or has anyone had similar?

I was wondering if this time they will just remove the cells possibly, seen as they have been there for 3 years, or are they just going to keep taking biopsies then leaving me another year until the cells develope more? I'm glad they aren't developing further but I'm just a bit worried that both the hpv and borderline cell changes haven't gone within 3 years.

Many thanks.

  • Hello Kirstie89 and thanks for posting,

I can't be sure, but I think if your next colposcopy assessment looks like CIN1 again, they probably still won't want to treat you, but this would depend on the biopsy results too.

CIN1 mostly goes away by itself and may not change into CIN 2 or 3. Generally I think the colposcopy clinics prefer to monitor CIN1, but there is no harm in you talking this over when you go for your appointment.

Please give us a ring on Freephone 0808 800 4040 if you want to talk anything over. We are around from 9-5, weekdays.

    All the best,
