Skin biopsy

Hello, I had a skin biopsy 5 weeks ago, I had a suspicious mole above my left eyebrow and it was removed with a punch biopsy. Within just 3 weeks the mole has grown back. I understand that if some cells are left behind it can grow back but is rapid growth normal? I'm still waiting on results

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about this mole and the need for it to be investigated.

I am afraid that I don't think anyone here can answer your question.  Except to say that I wonder if the biopsy you had (punch)  removed all of the mole, because if it did not some of the tissue of the mole would have been left. If the the mole grew back this still does not necessarily mean you have cancer. What is important now is the result of the biopsy that was taken.

I hope you know the results soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
