Worrying Letter

Hello everyone, I am new here.....

I have had a gastroscopy , then an abdominal ultrasound, then urgent CT, then a liver/abdo MRI in the last month. The MRI was on Friday 30th and I received a call on 4/1 inviting me to GI Clinic on 10/1.

Today I received the appointment letter - probably it's standard but it has made me worry more because of some of the wording :

"if you are added to a waiting list for surgery, the Clinic nurse will take swabs  for MRSA"

..........I thought the swabs can only be done just before surgery, so I am wondering about the rush?

"you have been offered the next available appointment"

..........I didnt expect it to be so quick, thought MRI results take 1 - 2 weeks? I was also surprised at how soon the actual scan was done

" It is vital that you attend your first appt and v importantt that you are ready, wu=illing and able to attend any appt made for you in the next 2 weeks."

......  I already confirmed this when they phoned yesterday.

"If you have any unavoidable commitments planned over the NEXT TWO MONTHS, please inform us immediately, so thta we can apprpriateky plan for any further investigations or treatment you may need"

...I was alarmed about the next two months...AND I amm n=booked to be abroad 8/2 to 27/2

Has anyone else had a letter similar to this?

Results so far

My Ultrasound and CT identified a "well defined solid soft tissue mass legion located in the portocaval space compressing the anterior wall of the IVC . It measures 4.6 x 3.4CM and could be arising form the 2nd part of the duodenum. associated solid round mesenteric nodes"  ANYONE IN A SIMILARE POSITION?

  • Hi there TD and thanks for the further updates

This understandably is a worrying time for you but please try and take things one step at a time and be guided by the doctors.

As tempting as it is to search up online and try and figure out the answers through google it will only be the results of the tests and the specialists involved in your care who can definitely say what is going on.

The good thing is that your doctors are taking this seriously and you are on the right track in getting things looked at appropriately.

There can be an overlap in symptoms and they could be linked but no one here can say for sure so don't let your mind run away with itself for now.

I hope all goes well Friday but do get back in touch anytime.

Take care and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can.

    Best

  • Just wanted to wish you will for your gastroscopy tomorrow. I hope all goes well. My appointment for the same thing is on Monday at the crack of dawn. Good luck

  • Thank you Leni56. And the same to you for Monday. Yes I have to be at the hospital for 7.15 am, so its an early start for us from home too. I am feeling okay about it as had gastroscopy without sedation before and they took a little biopsy off the bottom of eusophagus - all was well and the staff were brilliant, so I didnt find the procedure too difficult.  Different hospital and bigger procedure tomorrow but as I will be having sedation am sure it will be fine.

In between times I have had a lymph gland come up on my neck, amd some swelling at back of mouth - I describe it as feeling like I am going to swallow my left tonsil! Saw GP as thought I might need antibiotics before tomorrow..... nope... two doctor's looked in my mouth, said no antibiotics needed'..... but did a 2ww referral to see ENT Consultant and I now have an appointment for that net Friday 3rd!! I cannot faultour local NHS, they are being so prompt with everything. Plase u[date ,e when youve had your procedure. Sending best wishes. TDx

  • thanks for the reassurance that its not too bad a procedure, I've not had it done before - my appointment came in a phonecall, not sure I will get the letter in time so she told me over the phone that I will be sedated and not to eat or drink for 6 hours beforehand. Best wishes, and yes lets keep each other updated

  • Had the EUS yesterday - the procedure went fine and I was really well looked after. I had sedation and don't actually have any memory of it!

Just need to wait for biopsy results now.

  • Had the EUS this morning and I was well looked after but found it uncormtable at times though I don't have any memory of the end of it or returning to the recovery room. it seems like good news - no evidence of cancer found - pancreas, liver, oesphogus , ducts etc all look normal. They did find gall stones so they may be the cause of my raised tumour markers - didn't really take in much of what they said -but I got notes on a discharge letter - and they say I will need to see the consultant who referred me again. Feeling mighty relieved tonight - along with sleepy and a sore throat!

  • Really glad it went well and the news is good. Sleep well!
