Chemotherapy Treatment

Can I eat Rowse Honey with my Porridge Oats, during Chemotherapy treatment, for Invasive Bladder Cancer?

Thanks in anticipation, Bryan.

  • Hello Bryan,

Thank you for your post. I am sorry to hear that you're going through cancer treatment for bladder cancer.

It may be fine to have honey but I do think you need to check it out with the chemotherapy team if you are having a regime of intravenous chemotherapy. This is because you may be asked to be more careful about what you eat and as honey is not usually pasteurised there may be a concern about eating it.

However, if you are going to have one dose of chemotherapy instilled into your bladder then having honey is likely to be fine to have as the chemotherapy stays in your bladder and does not usually affect the rest of your body.

The best thing to do is to check it out with the chemotherapy unit, or your specialist nurse just to be on the safe side.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Many thanks Caroline, I will ask the IV nurse.

    Kind regards, Bryan.
