Breast surgery two weeks ago

Hi ,

I had my breast cancer surgery two weeks ago , stage one IDC , grade 2 ...lumpectomy with two incisions. It's all such a whirlwind of emotions and taking in all the information given.( The NHS were amazing and the nurses were so kind and caring ) still very sore but getting there slowly.I am just so tearful.

I cannot remember when I can take off the sterile strips on the wounds .. can anyone advise me please ?

Thank you

  • Hi D

The waiting is torture hopefully you will get good results too. My Dr told me I would have gotten chemo if I was HER 2 positive.  I'm ER positive Her2 negative.

Best of luck with the results and stay strong. We will get through this.

  • We will, we'll get there...here if you ever need to sound off . Take care xxxx

  • thank you , yes I think I started to settle after my Oncotype test this is a test which your rumour gets sent to America and gives you depth of your tumour alone not stats ect , it's for her2 positive and negative patients with no node positive and node positives patients it gives you the detail of whether chemo woykd be beneficial and it also gives you a score on reoccurrence which I needed more than anything before I could settle for me that was the closing door forever it gave me closure . This is not for everyone but for me saved my sanity and changed me back to the person I was before diagnosis.

much love I wish you the very best on your post op appointment I'm sure all will be well .

  • Thanks Lara, yeah it's this appointment on Monday I'm most nervous about as it's the results! As I say I know I'll need chemo but just hoping my lymph's are clear so keeping everything crossed! It's all the waiting that's the hardest but all part of the process I keep telling myself!

thank you for your positive response xxxx

  • Definitely

I was in your shoes it was very hard , but I promise you you will not feel like you do at this time in a few weeks you will lift back so quickly .
my friend also had her positive with 8 positive nodes that was 9 years ago she's doing amazing shes never looked back . Just remember this is a blip in the road it's rocky but it will straighten sooner than you think .

    big hugs love Lara

  • Thank you Lara, that's certainly lifted my spirits ️ xxx

  • ️ ️ I'm akways here when you need a chat x

  • Hi Deedot, laraj, midgemo

Thankyou all for replying,  it's certainly been physically and emotionally challenging time for all.
My lumpectomy was just under my nipple so it's very sore and painful . Since doing the excerises my underarm incision is hurting more but I will carry  on as the BC nurse said it's very important you do them. I will definitely do the massaging once I've taken off the sterile strips. I do have more downs then ups but I guess that's all very natural. I hoping once I have my meeting with the surgeon ( hopefully next week ) to discuss my margin results and treatment plan my head will settle down and focus on staying positive in this unknown times. Last discussion was Radiotherapy and hormone therapy as my cancer is ER / PR positive HER negative. Too be honest I'm scared of the side affects of the hormone therapy. I had to come off HRT when I got the diagnosis. Cold turkey was a nightmare.
Just remember ladies we CAN do this , we are BRAVE and we are BEAUTIFUL. We can LIVE our lives and still be US. Most of all it's OK to cry ( that's what I keep telling myself anyway !)
sending you all big hugs .
    Angel

  • Angel / all you lovely ladies

mine was also her2 negative I had one week of radiotherapy which went very well , I started the tamoxifen on month 3 I have had zero side effects only the last few nights I'm starting to notice I can't get off and wake up frequently I'm hoping this won't last .
